- A great deal of good test equipment, belonging to George Kopperl, KA1GS, SK will be available at our Hamfest on March 21st and again at NEARFEST on April 30th. John Lind, WB2VHZ, has done a tremendous job of checking out the items to make sure they are in working order. The list of equipment currently checked and priced is here. It can be purchased any time, or can be reserved through the first three hours of the CVRC Hamfest. Contact John at: johnelind@hotmail.com, or telephone: 464-5895. Also John can use help in moving the test equipment from his house in Hillsboro, to Jim McElroy's, in Henniker, before the Flea Market.
- Tuesday, March 9, 2010, 7:30 PM, at the regular Contoocook Valley Radio Club monthly meeting in the Hopkinton Library on Houston Dr. off of Pine Street in Contoocook, Capital Area ARES Emergency Co-coordinator, Skip Glover, K1SPG, will present, "An Overview of ARES - we need YOU!". Skip will describe how ARES serves our community. Many CVRC members participate in ARES. Before the meeting, join us for Pizza, 6:15, at Dimitri's.
- The CVRC's 2010 Indoor Flea Market and VE session will be on Sunday, March 21. We will have three great guest speakers, and several valuable door prizes. Don Curtis, N1ZIH, is in charge of the Hamfest this year. To book tables call Don at: 603-717-2086.
All members of our club are invited to attend and help out with the set up, running, and clean up. We will have a club table where you can help sell your own and the club's radio equipment. We need help at the Ticket, Membership, and Hot Dog Tables. Home made baked goods (especially chocolate) are appreciated for the food table.
Every year, the Hamfest turns out to be a fun activity and we all come away feeling that we accomplished a Good Thing. See you all there! For ALL the information, download the Flea Market Flyer; copy it and post at stores and local post offices
- VE Exams will be given at the CVRC Flea Market on Sunday, March 21st. Exam takers need to arrive at 9 AM with 2 forms of ID (or Passport), and copies of any existing license or CSCE's. We are not able to make copies at the exam site. The door will close, and tests will start exactly at 9:30. If there are any questions call Michael Murphy, WA1VKO, at: 978-738-4522, or 603-382-6889. A one year free membership in the Contoocook Valley Radio Club will be awarded to each newly licensed Radio Amateur. You must register at our Membership Table after passing the Exam.
- WWW.K1BKE.ORG has been reconstructed utilizing a new web publishing program, NetObjects Fusion Essentials, a no-cost program. The originally used program, Microsoft FrontPage, has not been supported for several years, and is no longer available. Fusion appears to be a perfectly respectable program. Pardon the construction dust as the conversion, a multi-day process, is cleaned up. k1jy
- Upcoming CVRC Events -
Tuesday, April 13, 7:30 PM, regular CVRC Meeting. "Elmer Night". Come and help the "new-comers". Share your enthusiasm. Set up and demonstrate your favorite activity in Ham Radio. Please, call Dale Clement, AF1T, at: 428-3840, to let him know what you plan to share. Elmer Night is scheduled 3 weeks after our VE Session, so new Hams can be introduced to many aspects of Ham Radio. We will have experienced, enthusiastic Hams, - we need "New Comers". Every one who passed the Technician Class Test in years past but never came to a meeting, everyone who wants to be a Ham, every one who is taking their Technician Test this year, please come and get help to get started. An "Elmer" is a friend who helps you learn about his or her favorite part of Amateur Radio.
- NEAR-fest will be held April 30, & May 1st at the Deerfield Fair Grounds.
- Planetarium Project - a new page has been added devoted to the ongoing ham radio station project at McAuliffe Shepard Discovery Center, formerly the Christa McAuliffe Planetarium. Check here for updates on this project.
- And a Very Merry Time Was Had By All - Many thanks to Allen's Restaurant in Boscawen, for providing us with a delicious meal, and a great location for our annual Christmas Party. Many thanks to every member who attended. I think this was the best one, ever! I laughed so hard, and enjoyed the reactions to the "Yankee Swap" presents, especially when Dale won a Dart Board, Lee won a feather boa, Katie won an ugly plastic doll, (she said she had won a rubber chicken at her last "Yankee Swap". -This made the chicken look good!), she then traded it for an Obama Plate.
Congratulations to our CVRC Officers: John Moore, N1FOJ, was re-elected as Club President. Dale Clement, AF1T, is the New Vice President and Activities Coordinator. Mickie Clement, W1MKY, is the new Treasurer. Jennifer Eastman was re-elected to the position of Secretary. Jim McElroy, NS1E, retired as Treasurer. Jim did a super job as both Treasurer and as the Organizer of our Hamfest. Thank you, Jim!
We wished Happy Birthday, to Jan McElroy, Mickie Clement,W1MKY, Sarah Dustin, Ken Wilkens, K1MID, Tom Perkins, AC1J, and John Moore, KB1CSI.
